HISTORY
In 1912, Reseda was founded and in 1915, its central business district started its development. It is a neighbourhood in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, California. For a long time, the neighbourhood was devoted to agriculture. The neighbourhood has 15 public and five private schools.
The Native Americans of the Tongva tribe inhabited the region of Reseda, like much of Los Angeles County. Reseda originated in 1912 as the town of Marian on the land that was originally part of the San Fernando Mission. The name Reseda refers to the fragrant plant Reseda Odorata (Mignonette in English) which was commonly found in the gardens of the time and is native to areas with a Mediterranean climate.
The name was first used for a siding on a branch of the Southern Pacific Railroad that ran between the cities of Burbank and Chatsworth in San Fernando Valley. The name Reseda was transferred from the Southern Pacific Railroad to the Western Division of the Pacific Electric Railway in the 1920s.
