Sherman Oaks was developed by Gen. Moses Hazeltine Sherman (partner of Los Angeles Suburban Homes Company). The company then sub-divided 1,000 acres (400 ha) of land that became Sherman Oaks. It was founded in 1927 and is a neighbourhood in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, California. The neighbourhood includes the portion of the Santa Monica Mountains, which Sherman Oaks a lower population density than other areas in Los Angeles.
The neighbourhood is roughly bounded by Beverly Hills Post Office to the south, Studio City to the east, Van Nuys to the north, and Encino to the west.
As per the 2010 U.S. Census, Sherman Oaks had a population of 52,677 people and 25,255 households.
